چکیده

background: in most of the studies, the association of vascular events is limited to migraine with aura or it is stronger in this group, whereas the link between migraine without aura (mo) and vascular events remained uncertain. therefore, we decided to evaluate endothelial function by chemical and functional markers of endothelium in mo and compare with normal population. methods: in this study, 39 patients and 25 healthy subjects were enrolled and fow‑mediated dilatation (fmd), c‑reactive protein (crp), nitrite and nitrate were measured in these two groups. results: the mean of fmd in healthy people was higher than the migraine patients  (mean difference − 7.67%; 95% confdence interval [ci] −9.90‑−5.44). the means of nitrite concentration in migraineurs was signifcantly lower than healthy subjects (mean difference − 2.0 µmol/l; 95% ci − 3.45‑−0.54). but the crp concentrations in both groups were not signifcantly different (mean difference 0.42 pmol/l; 95% ci − 0.13‑0.98). conclusions: this study can show the endothelial dysfunction in migraineurs without aura and suggest that mo could also be a risk for cardiovascular disease.

Interictal and postictal contingent negative variation in migraine without aura.

Cortical hyperexcitability is thought to explain the more enhanced contingent negative variation (CNV) amplitudes and impaired CNV habituation that have been found during the interictal period in migraine without aura. These CNV characteristics have been shown to normalize to the level of healthy controls during an attack. This study aimed to replicate the interictal findings, and additionally ...

Asymmetric distribution of visual evoked potentials in patients with migraine with aura during the interictal phase.

PURPOSE One of the most commonly described electrocortical phenomena in patients with migraine is an increased interhemispheric asymmetry, in response to different sensory stimuli. This study aims to evaluate the bioelectrical activity of both occipital cortices in patients with migraine with visual aura (MA) during the interictal period, and its possible relationship with visual symptoms. ME...

Regional homogeneity abnormalities in patients with interictal migraine without aura: a resting-state study.

Previous studies have provided evidence of structural and task-related functional changes in the brains of patients with migraine without aura. Resting-state brain activity in patients with migraine provides clues to the pathophysiology of the disease. However, few studies have focused on the resting-state abnormalities in patients with migraine without aura. In the current study, we employed a...

Migraine trait symptoms in migraine with and without aura.

OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to determine whether various transient sensory and neuropsychological symptoms (SNS) were associated with migraine using a custom questionnaire. METHODS In this hypothesis-generating case-control study, the frequencies of transient SNS in 219 patients with migraine (149 without aura and 70 with aura) were compared with 161 age- and sex-matched healthy contr...

Lamotrigine reduces migraine aura and migraine attacks in patients with migraine with aura.

This study examined the efficacy of lamotrigine in the prevention of migraine aura. Fifty nine patients suffering from migraine with aura received lamotrigine in a controlled three year prospective open study. Treatment response was defined as a reduction of aura frequency each month by at least 50%. Primary endpoint was reached by three quarters of the patients. Lamotrigine significantly reduc...
